tater tot casserole

tater tot casserole~ because tater tots rock.

Tater tots are one of those foods that….well, they just rock. Now, I know they aren’t one of the world’s healthiest foods, but every once in awhile, it’s nice to have some good old tots.

My husband loves having a hash brown casserole every Sunday for “soul food Sunday”. To be honest, I am sooooo tired of the hash brown casserole. So…. I invented something with a different frozen potato product.

Another thing I was thinking… why aren’t they called potato tots? Better yet, why aren’t more things called taters?

Just wondering.

Anyway, how to make this! It’s fast! It’s fun! It’s easy!

Take some thawed tots. Put em in a dish.

Pour over them, a mixture of soup, milk, ranch, and chives and parsley.

I didn’t say this was health food.

Yum! My kids will love it! :) Thanks :)

  • Tater tots are one of those things that I have a weakness for. This casserole looks so sinfully delicious. I will tuck this recipe away for the next Sunday family dinner.

  • Holy Moly! This looks amazing and will probably make it to my Thanksgiving dinner table this year! Rock on!

  • [...] Tater Tot Casserole (The Domestic Mama & The Village Cook) I’ve heard of tater tot casseroles before, but haven’t made one. THIS has me running to the kitchen. It looks totally delicious. Plus, how awesome are tater tots? Seriously. [...]

I make this casserole quite often, except I had a pound of ground beef before I add the other ingredients. I make it in a corning ware dish. My family calls it “dog food casserole!”

  • Amy

Pretty sure my hubby, kid and in-laws would love this. You could probably sprinkle some crumbled bacon on top with the french fried onions! ;)

  • yum! that looks easy and yummy!

  • oh my that looks great!!

  • Hi! I’m planning on making this dish this week, but I have one question. What size is the bag of tater tots that you used?

  • Honey, you must not be from the South. Cuz ’round here, we say, “Darlin’, hand me dem taters.” That’s short for puh-taters. This sounds yummy. I’m not all that keen on mushroom soup, but I’ll find another soup. By the way, when you use Ranch dressing, do you mean the stuff in the bottle or the powder in the pouch?

  • The stuff from the bottle, :) Enjoy! Let me know how another soup is

found the recipe on pinterest….made it for dinner tonight – YUMMY!!!!!!!!! Made my recipe file! Cheap, easy and yummy!!! My husband said, “I am a happy man.” seriously…..

Oh, and wanted to say that I like the idea above of adding ground beef and calling it a meal. And to Maggie who doesn’t like cream of mushroom soup, I make several potato casseroles with cream of chicken, and they’re delicious. I’m sure that would sub fine (and those recipes have no noticeable “chicken” flavor at all….although I’d say that I didn’t notice a strong mushroom flavor in this one.)

The Tater Tot Casserole will be a hit at a Super Bowl party Sunday. I’ve made this dish once before and it was outstanding. The first time, my co-workers devoured it! I’m certain the football fans will love it as well. I’m a vegetarian and this recipe is just right for me :o )

    Thanks very much!

I’m attempting this recipe after already cooking another Tater Tot casserole many times. It’s usually a hit, but the ingredients you add to it sound amazing!! Just a quick note, in my other recipe I use cream of mushroom AND cream of chicken…also I use evaporated milk…not sure how that changes things? And I layer ground beef on the bottom as well. SO yummy. I can’t wait for this to come out of the oven.

Tried this recipe and all the kids loved it! Thanks for sharing it.

ooh yum.. this is the recipe I was looking for.. hubby decided he wanted a bacon and tator tot casserole for dinner, but all i was finding was the traditional ground beef.. this mix will work oh so much better… (ranch dressing is a huge topper on his list of favorite things, too…) we will be using a gluten free “cream of…” soup because otherwise it would make me ill, but so looking forward to this tonight! This, with lots of bacon.. and some salad will be our saturday night dinner and likely a regular addition to the menu lists.

I just got this in the oven for the second time (the first was a grand slam dinner and I’ve been getting begged for it since.) I LOVE how simple and easy to modify this is. Tonight I used home made cream of chicken soup and beef hot links in it. And I can’t wait for it to be ready. Thanks for posting this!!

  • Amy

I wonder how this would be with Cheddar Cheese soup instead of cream of mushroom or chicken? This sounds so yummy though!

  • Gutpyle

What size bag of tater tots? There is more than 1 size.

  • Love this recipe, I made it at once a month. It goes well with meatloaf and a
salad. Just like a comfort food.

Can not get tater tots in my area. I love them. Any recipe for making my own? Would love to make this – looks good.
