chocolate tart

chocolate tart~ one of the best deserts…EVER!

You guys that follow me probably know that sometimes I don’ t sleep much. When I can’t sleep- sometimes I think of recipes. This happens to be one of them. I think it was 2:32 am, and I was thinking of something to make that was chocolate that didn’t require much oven time. (It’s been unseasonably warm) So, cookies and cake were disqualified.

Then came this:

This is going to be one of those things you’ll whip up when you want to impress. I’m totally making this for a contest. ;)

It’s pretty easy, too folks.

Really. The hardest part for me was when I was making the milk chocolate shavings… not because I scraped my hand or anything; but because I was using a solid milk chocolate” leftover” Santa, and I was trying to not get his white chocolate (colored  red) hat shredded. He was quite a unique Santa. Chocolate with a white chocolate beard and red hat. I should have taken a picture.

Anyway, I got a few red shavings by accident. In case you see red in the picture.

brownie cupcakes

brownie cupcakes~ cross between a brownie, fudge and cake

When I was a kid, I disliked brownies, unless they were frosted. Why was that? Why didn’t I appreciate the crusty-chocolate-chewy bliss? Hmmm.

I guess there is a lot of things that aren’t appealing to kids- but adults devour them. Like sushi and hot sauce. Not together, of course.

Speaking of being an adult… I just ate two macaron shells for breakfast. But, I had to- you see, I put these pretty sugar pearls on them, and the pearls must have been too heavy for the shells, and they fell in. So, it looked like I made Swiss cheese macarons. I’m glad I didn’t do that with the entire batch. Whew.

So, it’s Friday morning, and I am writing this post- pretty sure it’s going to have to be put on hold- since I have started it much later than the usual 5:45am.( I got busy making macarons.) And, now it’s 7:32am and I have a little one to get to preschool, then I have to speed grocery shop, go meet my sister, go back to pick up my daughter, do my walk, figure out dinner (??!!!), tidy up and hang out with my hubby when he comes home. In between it all, I have to wash the color, hang them up, do the breakfast dishes and clean the bathroom. I need to re-vamp my time management and put preschool pick up and drop off in there.

vanilla butter cake with cocoa frosting

I have to say I’m one of those people that spring clean in January. Something about the New Year makes me want to purge the excess clutter. Watching “hoarders” makes me want to do that, too. Combine the two; and I’m filling up Glad bags all day long. Well… not really all day long. From 8:45-11:15am. Because it’s really hard to purge your kids’ room while they’re there. I’m sure a lot of y’all know what I mean…

So, last week I purged, organized, and got ill. Ugh. That’s why I was gone for a lil’ bit. No worries, I’m back in full force now.  See… I got some new cookbooks for Christmas, and you know what that means- new stuff to make! Yippee!

That’s why there’s cake…

Not that this recipe came from a new cookbook. It actually is a recipe I morphed from a cookbook that came with a little children’s bake ware set.

baby caramel apples~ portion control by nature

My husband says I talk like an old lady sometimes. It’s because I say things like “marketing” and “tiding up”…hmmm.

So, the other day, I was marketing with my sweet mama and came across “lady apples”- little tiny sweet miniature apples.

How cute?! Little things are always cute. Unless it’s a little cup of coffee. Then, there’s going to be words. Anyway….

comfort food

comfort food~ it’s like a hug in food form

When I was about 17, I found this awesome comfort food cookbook at a bookstore; this was way before the days of the Internet- and debit cards, and I had no cash to buy the book…. so I tried my best to remember it so that I could buy it next time. I was 17. Of course I forgot all the important stuff, like the author or publisher.  I did however, remember that is had awesome photos and recipes. Come to think of it, I bet nowadays the photos wouldn’t be that impressive- have you ever noticed that food photos from the 60′s, 70′s and 80′s don’t look as good as they do today? I have a collection hoarding issue with vintage cookbooks. Especially 1950′s ones.

I need to make a post about my favorites.

Did you know that the Pillsbury bake off used to be called the Grand National?

There’s a little tidbit.

Speaking of tidbits, here is a collection of my most loved comfort food recipes…
