This recipe came from a Cooking Light magazine, I bake them every year. The recipe is by Elizabeth Tallaferro
1 cup flour
1/3 c unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1/3 c shortening
3/4 c sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 egg white
Mix the shortening and sugar until fluffy.
Add the egg white and vanilla and mix well, in a separate bowl, combine the dry ingredients ,then add them to the shortening mixture. Put dough onto wax paper and roll into a log. Chill 2 hrs.
Cut into 1/4 ” slices and bake at 350 for 6-8 min
to decorate, take 2c powdered sugar and 3 tbs milk- mix together and place in a zip top bag, cut a tiny hole in the corner and form 3 circles on the backside of each cookie. Pull a toothpick between the circles to form a “web”. repeat with each cookie. Enjoy!
each cookie has appx 102 calories and 2.9g of fat (see, not THAT bad!)
