Malt. Malted milk balls. Malted milk shakes. Now transform that into a cookie.
You know what I’m talking about?
Even if you don’t like malt, (like the hubby) you can just make these without the malt powder and they work. Because I did that. Yeah, I’m fond of my man enough to not add malt. But for me and the girls- we got all malty.
Of course, without the malt powder you have to call them chocolate sandwich cookies. (duh)
man, oh man, cookies are great models. Especially ones filled with fluffy malt frosting. I wish I had a few malt balls to toss in with the pic. Better yet- I should have crushed some up and put em in the cookie dough. What’s that they say about hindsight?
I know!!!!
After Halloween, I will buy my kids’ malt balls and make these again. Yes, BUY their Halloween candy. Would you just give your candy away if you were eight? Candy is money when you’re a kid.
Now, this dough is simple. You can make it up in about 15 minutes. Really. Even less time if you pre-measure your ingredients and have them in those little bowls like they do on the cooking shows. But, who wants extra dishes? Not me.
Yes, folks you can mix it by hand, too. Great for when there is a power outage. Just hope the power is back to bake em. No, you can’t mix it with a silicone-dollar-store spatula. Use a fork. Like me! Then scoop it all out with your spatula onto wax paper, like this:
This is the most tastiest looking big blob of brown I have ever seen. How about you? I agree- not many big brown blobs look appealing. Especially if you have big dogs. Ew.
Roll up your dough into a tasty brown log, and place in the fridge for an hour or so…
Meanwhile:
mix up some fluffy brown stuff.
This comes out best if you use a mixer. Hand held is fine. No worries.
Pretty soon you will be doing this:
woah. Now doesn’t that just look goooood?! I am drooling right now, but too busy to get my booty up to eat one. I will after I publish this. Just to let you know, after I filled them all, I licked my little knife clean. It was yummy. Ugh I sound 5.Yummy? Sometimes you just have to describe things like a 5 year old.
I never heard of anyone going down a roller coaster and saying “Oh my goodness! This is so extraordinarily exhilarating!” No way! We all say “Weeeeeeeeee!” Go ahead, say yummy and weeeee it’s okay to be 5.

Loved the recipe… Looks amazing and mouth watering…
Looks fantastic! I would have to make the malted version though
)
These do sound good. Did you use vanilla or chocolate malt powder?
This is better than candy. I’d trade mine for these.
That frosting deserves to be on cakes and other confections. Malt just does something delicious to chocolate so boo on the hubby. I love how you will have to buy the candy from your kids. It reminds me of my own childhood when my brother and I would trade candy and yell at my parents when they took any. We’d also come back during our route and trade with my dad who was passing out candy (we always bought the good stuff) and he would pass out what we didn’t like. Ah the politics of Halloween.
I love malt…even get an extra scoop of malt in my malt…
Gonna have to try these soon too!
Just lovely! I think I could handle about 10 of these!
Mmmmmm, these look SO delicious! Love them.
I love that quote- the politics of Halloween!!!
Oh so good. The malt takes it from ordinary to extraordinary. Totally mouthwatering pictures too!
These look so incredible and delicious, I haven’t had malt in years!
These look absolutely amazing! I wouldn’t omit the malt either… I’m sure hubby can learn to love it
I cannot wait to try these. I am a HUGE malt junkie. I used to have a paper route as a kid, and spent all my earnings on things like CARTONS OF WHOPPERS. yep. malt was better than cash.

Don’t bake for 7 minutes, much to dry.
