spaghetti pie (n)

~ a tasty dish I made while I was in a bad mood.

This recipe is tas-tee. But, in my case a do-0ver. Not because of the recipe, but because there was a tiff in our home that night at dinnertime. See… I told y’all I’m not perfect.

So, I need to do over the recipe so that it’s not “attached” to a tiff. I’m sure you have foods like that…. I remember my mom made tacos when I was little- the day I got in BIG trouble for throwing a rock at my sister. Needless to say, I don’t throw rocks anymore.

I do slap plates on the table- and then I stain my tablecloth. Grrrr…

perfect pizza crust

I used to use my french bread recipe for pizza crust…but, now I found a new one- thanks to my library. Man, I love library cookbooks.  I recently checked out this huge baking book, and, with a retail price of $39.95, I would have been to cheap thrifty to buy it. (I ended up finding a good used one for $13.00-that one I did buy ;)   ) Anyway, it was in this book that I learned:

I tended to over rise my dough.

I never let my dough rest enough.

I tended to over rise my dough…twice.

I suppose that is why:

I’m not a chef.

I don’t have a cookbook out.

My bread never looked “right”.

But… now that I know how to “do” dough… anything is possible.

Woo-hoo!

on top of spaghetti….

On top of spaghetti …. you know the rest, right?

Spaghetti is one of those things I can see a picture of and instantly crave it. I apologize to my carb watchers, but the other night I needed a big bowl of carbs and some red wine.

Maybe it had to do with seeing a picture of Lady and the Tramp… you know that one, where they have the spaghetti?

I realized a few things recently: one- the tortellini recipe I posted- the filling made waaaay to much, so here it is, resurfacing like an ugly sweater from your eccentric aunt. Not that I have an eccentric aunt. As a matter of fact, I think I am the eccentric aunt. Oh dear. Well, maybe not; people really do like mosaic glass boxes, don’t they? I do. I don’t give sweaters, but I am known to give containers. Containers are nice. They always look better than a pile of stuff, don’t you think? :)

I also realize it’s been a while since I’ve bored you with the goings on… oh wait- that’s what The Domestic Mama is about.  Well, I need to get busy there because I am in the middle of preparing to paint the kitchen  and maybe bedroom.  Then there’s rearranging. I get bored and like to move things around. Before and after pictures are fun of that.

Now, before you go thinking I’m totally clueless and heartless about what’s going on in the world and the weather… I’m not. I just know it’s sometimes nice to not think of something so sad on occasion. Seriously,  the news last night had me bawling like a 2 year old with a skinned knee. A girl’s husband died laying on top of her, protecting her. I was very tearful,  so was my hubby, but don’t tell him I told you.

With all respect, my prayers and blessings are with the people impacted by all the recent tragedy, around the world. I can only hope things like this bring humanity to surface in such a way that it is not forgotten, even after the storm has passed and towns are rebuilt.   I know I was changed after the hurricanes of 2004…and as much as I hated the situation, I am aware it did something for me, and I am happy about that.

tortellini disaster part 2

Tortellini disaster, yes. The whole process of the pasta making went smooth, even with my 3 year old in her new “no nap today!” schedule. Okay, maybe disaster is a strong word. How about screw up?

I was on the ball. I made a tray of tortellini in under an hour.

I had a jar of my homemade sauce ready.

I made bruschetta.  What went wrong?
