vanilla butter cake with cocoa frosting

I have to say I’m one of those people that spring clean in January. Something about the New Year makes me want to purge the excess clutter. Watching “hoarders” makes me want to do that, too. Combine the two; and I’m filling up Glad bags all day long. Well… not really all day long. From 8:45-11:15am. Because it’s really hard to purge your kids’ room while they’re there. I’m sure a lot of y’all know what I mean…

So, last week I purged, organized, and got ill. Ugh. That’s why I was gone for a lil’ bit. No worries, I’m back in full force now.  See… I got some new cookbooks for Christmas, and you know what that means- new stuff to make! Yippee!

That’s why there’s cake…

Not that this recipe came from a new cookbook. It actually is a recipe I morphed from a cookbook that came with a little children’s bake ware set.

cake pops

I finally made cake pops. I know,  they have been around forever…and, no I didn’t get all creative, either. I could have but, I just wasn’t feeling it. I’m sure you have days like that.

Now, the big question… will I ever do these again? Continue reading cake pops

also known as “how to make realistic looking sand”

Last week, a dear friend of my sister’s asked if I would do a cake for her daughter’s birthday. She was turning eighteen, and wanted something “beachy”. I was honored, because eighteen is a big one. Birthday, that is. I wish I could remember my 18th birthday. I don’t though. But, I am pretty certain it happened.

In case it didn’t does that mean I can go back for a do-over?

Easy enough, right?

Like when you need shampoo, and forget it at the store.. you just go back, right?

I’m rambling. Anyway….

This was actually my very first sheet cake… err…half sheet cake. When I was a kid, I always thought they were called “sheep cakes”. My mom would always say, “You can have a party but I’m not buying one of those sheet cakes!”

I don’t know… she had a thing against the big bakery cakes.

Need to talk with my mom about that, I guess…

Cake~more cake…

On Monday, my mom asked if I could make a cake for here reverend at her church. On Tuesday I attempted to make taffy, on Wednesday, I made his cake, on Thursday I met with my blogger bff, and then delivered this cake to the reverend and a hatchback full of food for the church’s food pantry.

Today I really wanted to sleep in.

rainbow cake (n)

- the soon to be four year olds answer to “What kind of cake do you want for your birthday?”

My warning to all of you thinking of attempting this process. Hire a dishwasher if you don’t have one. Because you’re going to mess up a lot of dishes. Don’t do it when you’re stressed about a hurricane that may make landfall on your house. And, finally… use a lot of food color. A lot. Especially with purple.
